Gustavo Hernandez began his art career in a group show, Hecho en Califas: The Last Decade 1990–1999, which showcased the work of California Chicanx, Latinx, and Native American artists who used non-traditional approaches to media and who challenged the mainstream understanding and visual language of their communities.  As a queer Latinx activist, his art brings visibility to his identities, and his latest work in photography aims to capture the imagination of his audience and challenge social norms.
