Theodora Varnay Jones was born in in Budapest, Hungary and received an MFA from the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts. She is based in San Francisco.

Her training in mathematics and geometry and her kinship with conceptual and minimalist art is evident in her works. Experiments with various disciplines, media and techniques in printmaking, drawing, sculpture, and installations echo her reverence for process and material while evoking an open-ended range of concepts from perception to relativity, transparency and time.

Varnay Jones has been honored with fellowship awards and grants from the Artists’ Fellowship Inc. and  Art Matters Inc. in New York; the California Art Council, Jerome Foundation, and Kala Art Institute in California and the Barbara and Henry Miller Foundation in Massachusetts. She has been a finalist for the SFMOMA’s SECA Award. Her artist in residences in California include Lucid Foundation, Morris Graves Foundation, Kala Art Institute, and ICA and in Japan at Kyoto Seika University. She is represented by Don Soker Contemporary Art and SFMOMA Artists Gallery in San Francisco and Kala Art Institute Gallery in Berkeley, CA.
