The comprehensive theme of all of Scott Idleman’s artwork is connectivity. The rhythm and patterns of his mark-making, though abstract and stylized, has a familiarity that resonates with the viewer. His inspiration may be what one would see out of an airplane window, the landscape reduced to grids, circles, and squiggles. Or maybe it’s the experience of being in a garden and examining plants in extreme close up—the textures, shapes, and colors. Scott strives to make the point with his body of work that our big, big world and the tiniest cellular microcosmos are one in the same and very connected. He’s always fascinated to hear the viewers’ perceptions and feelings—a Rorschach test of sorts. It’s all valid if they are connecting energetically to the art.
