Bleckner was born in New York City in 1949. He earned his B.A. from NYU in 1971, and an M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts in 1973. For more than three decades, Bleckner has been exhibiting his paintings internationally. His solo and group exhibits include the Whitney Museum of American Art and the MOMA in New York City, the Musee d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Japan, the San Francisco MOMA and the Stephen Wirtz Gallery, San Francisco.
