Michele King is a visual artist in San Francisco who combines abstract painting and gestural drawing as a foundation to explore psychological landscapes of memory and time. Her work is built in a sculptural process, with layers of materials and sanding using household tools rather than brushes. Often spatially disorienting, her scenes tend to juxtapose states such as stillness/motion, closeness/distance and the split between the subconscious and external world.

King’s work has been selected by jurors from Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco Art Institute and San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art. She has exhibited at Mina Dresden Gallery, LIMN Gallery, California Modern Gallery and SOMarts among other spaces in the San Francisco area. She has also shown work in Los Angeles, New York, Paris and Barcelona and was artist-in-residence with several organizations including Red Ink Studios in San Francisco and Can Serrat in El Bruc, Spain. King has a BA from Virginia Tech and an MPA from Harvard University in urban planning/policy and has also studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Columbia University School of Art.
