Jose Maro Alvarado is a San Francisco-based artist who lives in Sonoma County. He produces sculpture, drawings, paintings, and lithography. Jose was born in Texas and comes from a migrant farmworker background. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a BFA and an emphasis in painting and printmaking. He then received a teaching credential from San Francisco State University. Jose has been doing gum arabic paintings on aluminum and lithographic ink. The meaning of the work has many levels but the most obvious is renewal, transformation, and the cycle of life, both physically and symbolically.
