Self-taught Jeffery Ketcham hailed from Chicago and spent several years in New York and San Francisco creating works in various media, with special interest in exotic woods.

His early carvings translated to wood block prints.  From his carved inked blocks, the artist began creating boxes which became more elaborate over the years, incorporating wood sculpture, inlaid carvings and objects, faux painting technique and metal leafing. In 1998, his box art was featured in Inside Out, a solo exhibition, curated by Carole Austin at the San Francisco Craft & Folk Art Museum.

Prior to his death in 2005 at age 50, Ketcham completed his most ambitious and important work, titled Homage to Art. This three-panel, free standing sculpture was planked from a solid stump of ebony. It features 13 inlaid, hand carved ebony reliefs, referencing old masters and Ketcham himself.

Ketcham’s original prints, paintings and wood sculpture are featured in corporate and private collections worldwide. The artist was represented by ArtHaus, San Francisco from 1996–2004.
