In 1927, Gordon Cook was born in Chicago. After studying printmaking at Illinois Wesleyan University and the Art Institute of Chicago, Gordon moved to San Francisco. In the mid 1950s, Gordon became involved with the Bay Area California art scene and met abstract painter Joan Brown. Joan and Gordon married in the 1970s and actively taught throughout the Bay Area at the San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco State University, the University of California at Davis, Mills College, and the California College of Arts and Crafts. Gordon’s work is in the collections of the Achenbach Foundation for the Graphic Arts, the Oakland Art Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Gordon Cook died in 1985.
