Erika Meriaux’s work interprets and illustrates classic myths. In this piece, Erika interprets the Attis sto. Attis was a Phrygian vegetation god, the consort of the great Mother Cybele. He was forced by the goddess to castrate himself as punishment for infidelity. His self-mutilation, death, and resurrection represent the fruits of the earth, which die in winter only to rise again in the spring.
