Created after the 2016 elections, the Devices of Dubious Utility are future museum relics, complete with faded academic labels (e.g., “Device for Filtering out Alternative Facts”), paint-layered bases, and signed certificates (on verso) with title, ‘instructions’ for use, and “MOPTA” seal of the ‘Museum of Post-Truth Artifacts’.
The assemblages call attention to a world rapidly discarding old tools, jobs they performed, and the people who did them—a world where political strategies disrupt meaning and language, and ignore necessities of healthy food, clean air, water, peace, & respectful social discourse.
A signed hardbound catalog of all twenty “Devices of Dubious Utility” is included.
