In Barbara Maricle’s current work, she uses pattern, line and layering to explore states of movement/stillness, rising/settling, and clarity/obscurity.

She uses line in a wandering, searching way, indicating movement. Patterning and repetition add structure and can simulate meditation. She layers these elements so that a meandering line is half-seen, interrupted, behind a lattice of pattern or a veil of color.

Layering expresses looking back; into the past, into the fog of thought to achieve clarity of mind and vision. The process of that search is what Barbara finds interesting.
